A late night snack - such a simple memory that lives on in me.
I miss my dad. His sudden passing all those years ago still stings and I suspect it always will. But that is a part of this amazing, challenging life.
Today we are celebrating All Saints Day. In my tradition, this means a celebration of all Christians who have gone on before us into God’s eternal light. This includes my father, Jim Munroe.
Today I remember the “Great Cloud of Witnesses” that surrounds me. These are the people who taught me by their example - Who taught me with intention – Who taught me by mistake – and still I learned lessons from them all. Even while a part of me grieves I rejoice in even more measure for the blessings and experiences they shared with me.
A part of becoming an adult is the unfortunate discovery that people are fallible. Even the people we idolized. So, today I also hold to the hope that someday in the distant future, my child will remember me on All Saints Day and think not upon my mistakes or failures, but rather remember fondly the comforting sounds of a bedtime snack being prepared. The house is quiet and all is well. A great cloud of witnesses surrounds us.
Alleluia.
