In my life I’ve learned to manage. I can focus when I must. I work exceptionally well under deadlines. I’ve yet to have a Sunday in the pulpit when I just look out at the congregation and say, “I got NOTHING.”
One challenge I find is that my innate curiosity can really get in the way of my focus. I blame Google. This morning, I was on one of my favorite preaching sites looking for interesting phrases for a pastoral prayer. This led me to a blog ring for women clergy. This led me to the group’s Facebook page. On the Facebook page I read a post about a specific recent incident. This led me to Google where I looked up the incident for more detail. You can see where this is going and it isn’t to a completed pastoral prayer.
I am the clergy equivalent to Laura Joffe Numeroff’s book, “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.” I had to look up her name on Google…. Where were we? There was a point to this post, but now I'm just gonna go get a cookie. Want one?
