I learned a lot from Jim Henson’s puppets. I discovered that I can be a grouch and still be loved. I discovered that it was okay to be myself. I discovered that two people can be as different as Bert and Ernie and still be best friends. I learned that everyone, even big celebrities like Kermit the Frog, gets a little blue sometimes – even about silly things - like being green. I discovered that sharing is hard for everyone and even monsters can binge eat when there are cookies involved.
One other thing I’ve discovered is that thankfulness is a choice and choosing to be thankful resets the default setting. On days when I’d rather be Oscar the Grouch in my trashcan- thankfulness can turn me into a magnificently large, innocent and loving yellow Big Bird.
Thank you, Jim Henson, for your creation. Thank you Brian Henson and Frank Oz and Jason Segel for continuing the legacy. I’m looking forward to sharing The Muppets with my son next week.
What are the lessons you learned from The Muppets?
