Ummm, hello? Comedian here....
The lovely and talented Rev. Dwight McCormick, also a pastor and comedian, posted on Facebook pondering the concepts of Lent and Joy. Can a season of reflection and repentance be celebrated joyfully? Great question, Dwight. Please tell me you found an easy answer.... No?
Okay then, how about this.....
Yes, And.
Yes, we can be joyful in all times AND in all liturgical seasons. Yes, we can joke and laugh in measure AND we balance the joy with our laments and tears of regret. Yes, we face our own mortality with trepidation AND we laugh at death because in Jesus God had the final word over death....and you know what? Turns out it was a knock-knock joke.
Mary at the Tomb on Easter Morning: “Knock – Knock.”
AND nobody was there.....
Good one, God!
May your Lenten Journey be filled with somber reflection AND joyous revelation.
